ii. Biography short

War on the Horizon is a six-piece metalcore band out of Flint, Michigan that writes about the quiet parts of falling apart and finding a way back. Their songs move between crushing weight and something more fragile, drawing as much from melody as they do from volume. The debut EP We the Broken, re-released June 7, 2026, is where that sound came together, and it remains the clearest picture of the band so far.

iii. Biography extended

What started as a casual side project in 2019 by Matt quickly turned into a full-fledged metalcore band. Their first song was titled “Brian’s Song,” and it is still included in their live setlist today. In its infancy, the band consisted of Dan on drums, Tyler on screams, and Matt on guitar. After a few years of writing, the group expanded its lineup, adding Dave on bass, Andy on guitar, and Matt’s own daughter, Madison, on lead vocals.

The band’s makeup is a rich mix of veterans from the local music scene. Matt, and brothers Dan and Dave, previously played together in Project 420, a local favorite in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Matt later fronted his own project, Downseed, which saw several iterations over a ten-year span ending in late 2012. Meanwhile, guitarist Andy spent the 2000s playing in the band Diver before launching his own project, The Headless, which he fronts himself.

After a warmup show in August 2025, the band went on to share the stage with national touring acts like Fire from the Gods, For the Fallen Dreams, VRSTY, Arkona, and Malphus. These performances took them to venues such as The Venue in Cadillac and The Sanctuary in Detroit, alongside hometown shows with friends at spots like the Diesel Concert Lounge.

Their momentum carried through May and June of 2026, the stretch that saw the release of their debut EP, We the Broken. Looking ahead, War on the Horizon has a packed schedule for August, including return appearances at The Sanctuary, the Vexed Venue, Mudjam 2026, and a performance at the legendary Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan, opening for Primer 55 and 40 Below Summer. Moving forward, War on the Horizon has its eyes set on expanding its reach even deeper into the local scene and surrounding areas throughout Michigan.
